Protecting Arizona’s Future: Corazón Arizona's Critical Work This Election Season

Corazón Voter Registration Event (Summer 2024)

As Arizona continues to be a battleground state in the 2024 election, the work of grassroots organizations like Corazón Arizona is more vital than ever. While some may view organizing as a straightforward task, those who are in the trenches know it’s a long, demanding process—one that’s essential for the future of our state.

At Corazón Arizona, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to building an Arizona that is abundant and dignified for all, our work has intensified as Election Day approaches. Our mission centers on empowering communities through education, engagement, and advocacy, and this election season, we’re tackling the issues that matter most to Arizona’s diverse faith communities.

One of our key initiatives is the Human Rights in the Pulpit, on the Bimah, in the Minbar Campaign, where we work with faith leaders across the state to educate the public on the dangers of Proposition 314, which threatens to undermine key protections for marginalized communities. This campaign amplifies the voices of clergy and faith leaders who are speaking out against this harmful measure from their places of worship, bringing the moral voice of the community to the forefront.

But our work doesn’t stop there. Corazón is engaged in comprehensive phone banking, text banking, and community events to mobilize voters and ensure their voices are heard. We’ve set a goal of reaching tens of thousands of Arizonans through these efforts, reminding them that their votes can shape the future of our state. Additionally, we’re organizing election protection and poll monitoring efforts to safeguard the voting process and ensure that everyone has the right to cast their ballot without obstruction.

Arizona, as a swing state, holds immense significance in national elections. The results here could not only determine the outcome of local races but could also influence the future direction of the entire country. This is why the work we’re doing is so critical. In an election marked by polarizing issues—immigration, economic inequality, healthcare, and civil rights—people of faith have an opportunity to make their voices heard, and Corazón Arizona is at the heart of this movement.

“Our work this election season is about more than just getting people to the polls,” said Alicia Contrares-Alas, Executive Director of Corazón Arizona. “We’re creating a space where people of faith can advocate for dignity and justice. Whether it’s through voting down harmful propositions like Prop 314 or working to ensure election integrity, we believe that every person deserves a say in shaping our shared future.”

As we look ahead to Election Day, Corazón’s ongoing efforts to engage voters are making an impact. From hosting educational events to directly contacting voters through texts and calls, we are dedicated to ensuring that Arizona’s faith communities are empowered to vote with their values. Together, we can create a state—and a nation—that is abundant and dignified for all.
